Back to sport, step by step

Getting back to sport usually takes more than rest. We work through it in stages, and each one builds on the last.

1. Assess

What's injured, why it happened, and what your sport asks of it.

2. Treat

Hands-on treatment to settle pain and get things moving again.

3. Rebuild

Strength, control and confidence, built up week by week.

4. Return

A clear plan back to full training.

02

What to expect

How sports physiotherapy works with us.

Hands-on, every time

Hands-on treatment in every session, alongside your rehab. Not just a sheet of exercises.

Time to do it properly

60 minutes for your first visit and 45 for follow-ups, so there's time to treat and coach your rehab.

A plan back to your sport

Step by step, with strength work aimed at what your sport asks of you.

Confidence

Knowing what you can do, and what to hold off on, at every stage.

03

When to get sports physiotherapy

Some of the most common reasons people come to see us. Not just for athletes.

After an injury

A sprain, strain or niggle that's stopping you training.

  • Sprains and strains
  • Running and gym injuries
  • Tendon problems, like Achilles or knee pain

Coming back after time off

After surgery, illness or a long layoff from your sport.

  • Rehab after surgery
  • Planning your return to sport
  • Building back up step by step

Pain that keeps coming back

The same problem flaring up every few weeks or every training block.

  • Back, neck or joint pain
  • Recurring muscle strains
  • Aches that build with training

Before a big event

Getting ready for a race, season or competition.

  • Strength and conditioning advice
  • Planning your training load
  • A check-up before you build up

Your first appointment

Your first appointment takes an hour. We'll ask about the injury, your training and what you want to get back to, then look at how you move. We'll explain what we think is going on in plain English and map out your plan back to sport. Treatment usually starts the same day.

Follow-ups are 45 minutes. Bring or wear your training kit. You don't need a GP referral.

If we can't help, you won't pay

If we assess you and don't think we can help, you don't pay for that appointment, and we'll point you to someone who can.

06

Physio and massage, one visit

Pair your physio with a sports massage, or with chiropractic, back to back at our Heaton clinic. Handy while you're training back up, and it costs less than booking them separately.

First visit + massage

Start your rehab and loosen off in the same trip.

Treatment + massage

A physio session, then a 30-minute sports massage.

Physio + chiropractic

Physiotherapy and chiropractic in the same visit, planned together.

07

Regular appointments

Once you're back training, some people like regular check-ins to keep on top of things. We'll plan them around your training, whether that's every few weeks in a heavy block or the odd session before an event.

Ask about membership if you'd like regular appointments.
